Research Associate Position at University of Minnesota

The Supply Chain and Operations Research Laboratory (www.isye.umn.edu/labs/scorlab
) invites applications for an immediate opening for a full time research associate position. The position is to provide support for the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) contract. Salary is highly competitive.

This position is initially for a period of three months beginning July 1, 2010 and renewable in 6-month increments subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds. The research associate will report to Professor Diwakar Gupta, Director of SCORLAB and Professor in the Industrial and Systems Engineering program. Candidates must have strong analytical and programming skills needed to run, maintain, update, and create the next generation of simulation models of the U.S. solid organ transplant allocation system. Candidates with prior experience of programming in Object Pascal using Borland's Delphi development environment will be given preference, but other competencies including C++ and open-source package integration are also desirable. Duties of the research associate will include development of decision support tools based on advanced mathematical models and algorithms, analyzing and summarizing large data sets, organizing and summarizing simulation results, and communicating the results to a diverse mix of audience. That is, candidates must be familiar with techniques used in statistical modeling, mathematical optimization, and quantitative data analysis. The project requires the ability to work in a team and excellent written and oral communication skills.

Required/Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates are expected to hold an advanced degree (PhD preferred) in either computer science and operations research, with background in the other field.
